Who it's for
Teams with a live iPhone or Android app who want speech recognition, image or video understanding, or text features, without sending customers' data to a server or paying for every request.
What you get: One AI feature designed, built, tested on real devices and shipped in your app, with the privacy label and permission wording that go with it.
What's included
- A scoping call and a written plan: what the feature does, which on-device framework fits, and what happens on phones that can't run it.
- Speech: transcription with word timings, keyword spotting or aligning speech to a script, using Apple's SpeechAnalyzer and SpeechTranscriber on iOS 26 and later, or Android's on-device speech recognition.
- Images and video: text recognition, document scanning, barcodes, face and body landmarks or object detection, using Apple's Vision framework or Android ML Kit.
- Text: summaries, rewriting, extraction or classification using Apple's Foundation Models framework, shown only where Apple Intelligence is available, with a fallback for everyone else.
- Models built into the app or downloaded by the system, so the feature works offline and nothing leaves the phone.
- Testing on real devices for speed, battery and heat, including the older phones your customers still use.
- Privacy label, privacy policy text and permission wording updated to match, written to pass App Review.
Not included
- Features that need a server-side model, such as open-ended chat over your whole knowledge base. We say so in the scoping call and suggest what can be done on the device instead.
- Training a custom model from your data. We work with Apple's and Google's built-in models; a custom model is quoted separately.
- Both platforms at the starting price. From £4,000 covers one platform; the second is quoted alongside.
Why on the device, not a server
- 1
Privacy
Audio, photos and text stay on the phone. You never hold customer data you don't need, there is no server full of it to breach, and the privacy label stays short and true.
- 2
Cost
No API bill that grows with every user and no server to run. The feature costs the same whether a thousand people use it or a million.
- 3
App Review, and offline
Apple asks what data leaves the device and why. A feature that sends nothing is easy to describe honestly on the privacy label and in review notes. It also works on a train, in a basement and in a hospital with no signal.
How it runs
- Week 1Scoping, and a working prototype of the hardest part on a real device, so we know the approach works before the build is priced.
- Weeks 2 to 4Build, with a TestFlight or internal-test build each week.
- Weeks 5 to 6Device testing, the fallback for unsupported phones, privacy text and release.
Why trust us with it
Cuefold, our own app, matches what you say to your script word by word on the device, using Apple's speech recognition with word timings, and uses that to cut your retakes automatically. Audio never leaves the phone. It's on the App Store, so you can try the feature yourself.

Questions we get asked
On iPhone and iPad: Apple's SpeechAnalyzer and SpeechTranscriber for speech, the Vision framework for images and video, and the Foundation Models framework for text, all running on the device. On Android: ML Kit for vision and speech. Where a task needs a model of our own, Core ML on Apple devices and LiteRT on Android.
Every feature has a plan for them: an older model that runs more slowly, a simpler version of the feature, or hiding it cleanly with a one-line explanation. Apple's text features, for example, are only available where Apple Intelligence is, so the app checks before showing them.
For speech, text recognition, barcodes and faces, Apple's and Google's on-device models are very good and getting better each year. For open-ended language tasks, on-device models are smaller than the largest cloud ones. That's why week one is a prototype on a real device: you see real results before the build is priced.
Yes. The feature is built in the native layer (Swift on iOS, Kotlin on Android) and exposed to your Flutter or React Native code through a plugin or module, so the rest of the app doesn't change.
One feature on one platform, with the scoping, prototype, build, device testing and privacy text described above. A feature with several models, both platforms or a lot of custom interface moves it up; we tell you the price after the week-one prototype and before the build.
AI features improve with use. Most teams put the app on Ongoing development, from £1,500 a month for two reserved build days, so the feature keeps getting better as Apple and Google improve their models and as you learn how people use it.
